About RS
Reed Switzer is an entrepreneur and product leader in the financial technology space. He previously founded Hopscotch, a business-to-business payments and cash flow management platform, which he led from idea through its recent exit to Avalara, a multi-billion dollar tax compliance automation company. Today, Reed leads Avalara’s FinTech strategy as General Manager of the Hopscotch business unit.
Born and raised in New York, Reed got his start bussing tables at a local diner. In his early career, he launched an apparel brand alongside a couple of friends. He later served as Operations Lead for a music streaming startup led by a longtime music industry exec.
While studying finance and technology at Wharton in 2021, Reed decided to drop out of school to pursue an idea that evolved into what is now Hopscotch. In three short years, the company successfully raised $10m+ in venture capital, acquired thousands of customers, and exited to a world-class company in one of the toughest markets in recent years.
Outside of his professional life, Reed serves on the Board of Trustees at the Windward School, the leading school for children with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities (he is also a proud alum). He also enjoys studying new tech and advising early-stage startups.
Reed was named to the Forbes 30 under 30 Finance list in 2024.
